Named after Helios, the Greek Sun God, who rode
his chariot across the sky. An eclipse,
once seen as Zeus blocking Helios,
led to the discovery of helium in 1868
- first found during an eclipse, not on Earth.
Here in this image we see the creation of
Helium from Hydrogen in the process of nuclear fusion.
